Greenhouse Panels

We can help...

At Plastic Solutions, we have 3 types of plastic sheet that are superb for greenhouses.

1) ACRYLIC sheet
is clear like glass. It is 50 times stronger than glass and is excellent for most glazing applications, including greenhouses. You may know this material as 'perspex' and it comes in large sheets 10ft x 6ft (3050mm x 2050mm) which we can cut to size for you at no extra cost. Acrylic is cheaper than Polycarbonate but not as strong.

2) POLYCARBONATE sheet
is also clear like glass. It is 200 times stronger than glass and is virtually unbreakable. You could (and we have tested it!!) throw a hammer at Polycarbonate and it will bounce off! It is available in sheets 8ft x 4ft (2500mm x 1250mm) in 3mm, 4mm and 6mm thickness and also in large sheets 10ft x 6ft (3050mm x 2050mm) which we can cut to size for you at no extra cost.

3) MULTIWALL POLYCARBONATE sheet
is a clear, structured plastic sheet that has air pockets or 'flutes' inside it. While it is clear, the inclusion of the air pockets means that it is not as clear as a standard 'single' pane of glass. It is typically used as an overhead canopy sheet for lean-to roofs, patio covers and other roof type applications. It can also be used standing vertically and making it ideal for greenhouse walls as the structured interior of the sheet gives it additional rigidity.

Multiwall Polycarbonate is available in very large sheets 2.1mtrs high (2100mm) x 7mtrs (7000mm) long and in thicknesses 10MM (called twinwall polycarbonate), 16MM (triplewall polycarbonate) and 25mm (fivewall polycarbonate). Again we can cut this material for you at no extra cost and you only pay to the nearest square mtr - in other words you do not have to buy the full size sheet!. There is also a range of fixing accessories available that help you secure it and these can be used for vertical applications as well as overhead.

FAQ

Are these panels good for propagation?
Yes. Our plastic sheets are manufactured using state of the art processes, ensuring premium quality sheets that actually aid propagation - making them ideal for greenhouse & patio applications.

Will plastic panels go yellow in the sun?
Modern plastics have UV inhibitors extruded into the sheets during manufacture. All the plastic materials mentioned above are UV stabilised and carry a manufacturer guarantee for a minimum of 10 years outdoor use in all weathers. It is vitally important that the correct material is used. For example, Polyester, Polystyrene, PVC, Acrylic and Polycarbonate may look the same when held in the hand, but they all have different properties. At Plastic Solutions, we sell double sided UVPolycarbonate sheet for greenhouses and dug out applications. Always clarify with the seller what you are getting. If they say Polycarbonate, ask is it UV Polycarbonate!

Will these panels curve?
Polycarbonate is ideal material if you wanted to cold curve a sheet e.g. like a dug out shelter used in sports. Obviously the thicker the sheets, the more rigid they become. If you were to take one of our large Polycarbonate sheets in 3mm or 4mm thickness, extend your arms vertically and have the sheet lying flat on your palms over your head, the sheet would 'flop' or curve downwards on either side of you naturally without fear of breaking. Similarly, when transporting these sheets, it is possibly to bend them into a 'U' shape to fit them into various transports. Everything of course, has a tolerance and plastic sheets have a maximum / minimum radius bend before 'stress' enters the sheet.
